“Roberto Mannino è uno scultore di vuoti, di impronte, di calchi, che ha ideato le tre sculture aeree all’interno di un organismo unico, i cui elementi, in carta a mano, sono idealmente collegati dalle dinamiche dell’acqua e dell’aria – da qui il titolo Streams per l’intera installazione – alludendo ai flussi dei due elementi naturali, simboli di abbondanza e fertilità culturale.” (Antonella Renzitti, Le sculture aeree di Roberto Mannino)

Roberto Mannino is an Italian American paper artist and art educator living and working in Rome. He holds a bachelor of fine arts degree in sculpture from the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) as well as a degree in sculpture from the Academy of Fine Arts of Rome. He currently teaches papermaking and sculpture at Temple University Rome and Loyola John Felice Rome Center (JFRC) and woodcarving at the Municipal School of Arts and Crafts in Rome. He has taught as visiting professor at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY and Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) in Baltimore, MD; has offered workshops on 3D and relief papermaking at Dieu Donné, Cooper Union, Pyramid Atlantic and various institutions throughout Europe.

His artistic research focuses on contemporary papermaking, working in a variety of formats ranging from artists’ books and watermarks to relief and installations. His work has been exhibited at the Expo Palace in Rome; Museum Rijswick in Le Hague, Netherlands; MACRO Contemporary Art Museum in Rome; Arts and Traditional Craft Museum in Rome; Banff Center for the Arts in Alberta, Canada; Robert C. Williams Museum of Papermaking in Atlanta, USA; Papiirmueet Bikuben Museum, Silkeborg, Danmark. A recent, large scale site-specific project, Streams, is permanently installed in the Sala Dante at the Istituto Centrale per la Grafica in Rome.
